John Ramsburg

July 10, 1937 — December 28, 2015

John Ivan Ramsburg was born in Creagerstown, MD on July 10, 1937.  He was the son of the late John Oliver and Bessie Pauline (Harbaugh) Ramsburg.

John graduated from Frederick High School in 1955.  He joined the U.S. Army and was stationed at the Army Language School in Monterey, CA.  He became a translator in Russian language and after graduating from the school, he was stationed at the National Security Agency at Fort Meade, MD.

After his service in the Army, he returned to Frederick, MD and was employed by the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement.  He trained horses at the Frederick Fair grounds for many years.  John loved horse racing, playing golf with his friends and watching football.  John was known for his great sense of humor and love for animals.

John is survived by his sister Catherine “Linda” Icard, nephews John Jacob Icard and his wife Deborah of Frederick, MD, Grady Mitchell Icard and his wife Kathleen of Cockeysville, MD, and niece Johncie Melinda Borden and her husband Brent of Somerset, MA.  “Uncle Johnny” is fondly remembered by his great nieces Jacy, Kayra and Graylie Icard and Josephine Borden and by his great nephews Connor and John Mitchell Icard and John Frederick Borden.

John attended St. John’s United Church of Christ in Woodsboro, MD.  He was formally a member in the U.S. Trotting Association, Frederick Moose Lodge, Jeffersonian Patriotic Club, Frederick Owls Club, and Frederick Redmen’s Club.

The family asks in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the St. John’s United Church of Christ, Hospice of Frederick County, or the local food bank.  A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00AM on Saturday, January 2nd, 2016 at the Keeney Basford Funeral Home at 106 East Church Street in Frederick, Maryland.  A gathering of family and friends in John’s memory will be held after the service.
