Mr. Joseph "Bud" L. Long, age 88 of Frederick, passed away on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 in his sleep at his residence. He was the husband of Dolores L. (Feeser) Long who passed away on January 11, 2014. Born on January 10, 1928 in Frederick he was the son of the late John R. Sr. and Violet V. Long.
Mr. Long graduated from Frederick High in the class of 1945. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force serving six months in Guam and six months in Japan. He continued his service to the Federal Government working at Fort Detrick as a dispatcher and supply clerk. He retired in 1983 after 34 years of service. He continued employment with the Maryland State Police as the care taker at the old Frederick barracks. Most recently, he was employed at the Frederick VFW as grounds keeper of the golf course. Mr. Long was a life member of the VFW Post 3285 and also an active member of the FSK American Legion Post #11, the AmVets Post #2, and the Owls Club Nest 4002, all in Frederick and a former member of the Moose Lodge #371. In his free time, he enjoyed woodworking, bowling, was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing cards at the Owl's Club.

Mr. Long is survived by his children, Teresa L. Covell and husband Alan "Hoot" of Thurmont and their son David; James "Jimmy" or "Whiskers" E. Long of Frederick; and Gene Long and wife Sandi Fry Long of Walkersville and their son Mike. He is also survived by his sister Betty V. Blumenauer of Frederick; brother-in-law Larry Feeser and wife Pat; sister-in-law Libby Hill as well as numerous other extended family members. He is predeceased by his siblings, John R. Long, Jr., George R. Long, Merhle C. Long, Sr. Anna Lee Fout, and Shirley E. Baker. He will also be remembered by close friends Petie Rose and Phil Rauh.
Friends will be received on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 from 10 to 11 AM at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick where services will be begin at 11 AM in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home. The interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
