Charles P. Jones

Mr. Charles P. Jones, 81, of Frederick, died on April 27 after an extended illness.  He was the husband of Charlotte Keller Jones.  Born on March 12, 1935 in Martinsburg, WV, he was the son of Paul Wilson Jones and Ella Mae Files Jones.

Mr. Jones was a salesman for Frederick Coca-Cola for over 32 years.  He met his wife, Charlotte, at Walkersville High School and they were high school sweethearts.  They were married on April 12, 1958.  Charles was active in his church, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Walkersville and was active in the Woodsboro Boy Scouts and Little League, where they lived for 17 years.  Mr. Jones was known for singing and whistling and enjoyed hunting and fishing.  After his retirement from Coca-Cola, he began working as a driver for Frank Kennedy Ford, which nurtured his love for driving.  Charles had a very close and strong relationship with his family, especially his grand-children, as he was a foster child and was raised by wonderful foster parents Mollie and Fink Birely and their children Ethel and Julia.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Jones is survived by son, Charles P. Jones II (Charlie) and wife, Amy, grand-children Charles P. Jones III (Chaz) and Rachel Jones and sister-in-law, Mildred K. Cartee and her husband, John.  He was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters as well as his foster sisters Ethel Wilhide and Julia Smith and her husband Curtis.

The family will receive friends on Friday, April 29 from 6-8 PM at Keeney and Basford PA Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick.  Additionally, a visitation will be held on Saturday, April 30 from 10:00 to 11:00 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 14 W. Pennsylvania Avenue, Walkersville.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM at St. Paul’s following visitation.  Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
