Kenneth C. Abbott

Mr. Kenneth Clay Abbott, age 64 of Frederick, passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. Born on March 21, 1952 he was the son of the late Willis R. and Marybelle (Poole) Abbott.

Mr. Abbott was a 1970 graduate of Thomas Johnson High School. He played the trumpet in the school marching band and was active in the Thespian Program. "Kenny" also loved to dance. Following High School he enlisted in the United States Navy serving until his retirement in 1999. This gave him the opportunity to travel all around the world. He continued to serve in the Merchant Marines until he moved to Frederick in 2006 to work at Fort Detrick in the commissary until he finally retired in March of 2016. Mr. Abbott was a member of the American Legion FSK Post # 11, Frederick. In his free time he enjoyed watching the Washington Redskins, and loved his family, particularly his nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Mr. Abbott is survived by his siblings, Rosemary L. Abbott of Richmond, VA, and Lawrence W. Abbott and wife Susan of Walkersville, his nephew Heath Abbott, four nieces, Heather Mitchell, Sarah Abbott, Michelle Abbott and Sherrie Myers and several great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his brother Willis R. Abbott, Jr. He will also be missed by his friends Dale Claybaugh, Barbara Crutchley and many others.

Friends will be received on Monday, May 16, 2016 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick where services will be held in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at 10 a.m. The interment will follow in the Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.
