Robert Heffner

Robert Wayne Heffner, 77, of Thurmont, passed away on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at Brookdale Assisted Living in Hagerstown. He was the loving husband to Marilyn Louise (Ridgley) Heffner.

Born on July 30, 1938 in Frederick, he was the son of the late Clarence Edward and Mary Evelyn (Geesey) Heffner. Robert retired as a Captain from the Army National Guard in 1998, Post 78, 29 th division. During his time in the National Guard, Robert traveled all over the country participating in Marksman shooting tournaments, receiving dozens of medals for his abilities and excellence. He also worked for nearly 30 years as a Prudential Insurance Agent, he was well respected and held himself to the highest standards, never using policies just to make a sale. Together since the early 1980’s in 2005 Robert married Marilyn. He was a life-long member of Camp Kanawha and had a passion for hunting and fishing.

In addition to his wife, Robert is survived by his step-daughters, Kimberly Dawn Neal and Kelly Lynne (Neal) Breznai and husband Carl; brother, Edward Heffner and wife Patricia; grandchildren, Maegan Nicole (Cramer) Grapes and husband Richard, Bentley Michael Grapes, Trey Ryan Grapes, Collin Ryan Breznai and Miranda Kristi Breznai; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Robert was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Kristi Ann Neal.

The family will receive friends from 3-5 & 7-9pm on Monday, May 23, 2016 at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. The funeral service will be at 1pm on Tuesday, May 24 th at the funeral home with interment following at Resthaven Memorial Gardens. The Reverend Dr. Elsabeth Hilke will officiate. Serving as pallbearers will be Carl Breznai, Collin Breznai, Richard Grapes Jr., Gregory Heffner, Hunter Heffner and Allen Dyson. Honorary pallbearers will be Bentley and Trey Grapes.
