Mr. Jerry Franklin French, Sr. 81, of Point of Rocks, died on Friday, May 27 at his residence. He was the husband of the late Gladys L. French for nearly 58 years until her death in March 2015. Born at home in Point of Rocks on November 12, 1934, he was the son of the late George Franklin French and Pauline Virginia Hawes.
Mr. French was a heavy equipment operator for PEPCO for over 30 years, until his retirement in 1986. He and his family enjoyed vacationing on Chincoteague Island, where he maintained a vacation property. Jerry and his wife built their Point of Rocks home and he found pleasure in gardening and doing yard work. An avid walker, Mr. French had his own walking route and walked 3 miles each day. He enjoyed fishing, boating, crabbing and spending time with family.
Mr. French is survived by his children Gloria McGaha and husband Earl, Barbara Doxtater and husband Robert, Cynthia A. French and Jerry F. French, Jr. as well as 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Additionally, he is survived by siblings Joseph "Sonny" French and wife Emma, JoAnn Henry, Dale French and wife Peggy and David French and wife Elizabeth as well as a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Curly Henry.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 31 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Keeney and Basford PA Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, June 1 at 10:00 AM in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the Funeral Home, Pastor Edward Hartman officiating. Interment will be in St. Paul's Cemetery, Point of Rocks.
