Harry Edward Jett

Mr. Harry Edward Jett, age 84 of Thurmont, Maryland, died on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at Frederick Memorial Hospital, with his son and daughter at his side. He was born on November 2, 1931 in Nutter Fort, West Virginia and graduated from Roosevelt-Wilson High School in 1949. Harry was the son of the late Thomas Jett and Allie Cox Jett.

Mr. Jett retired from BASF Corporation as East Coast Sales Manager in 1992 after a 40 year career in industrial chemical sales for the automotive and related industries.

He is survived by a son, Bruce E. Jett; daughter-in-law Via Jett; daughter, Cynthia D. Jett; son-in-law, Kevin T. Folk; and eight grandchildren, Elyse with husband Stephen, Autumn, Matthew, Avery, Sanders, Tristan, Garrett and Samuel. Also surviving are two brothers, Larry Jett with wife Beverly of Lakewood, California; David Jett of Clarksburg, West Virginia; and two sisters, Dorothy "Dot" Jett Mills of Nutter Fort, West Virginia and Betty Moccia of Margate, Florida.

He is preceded in death by his wonderful wife, Glendine "Glennie"; one brother, William "Bill" Jett; one sister, Wilma Jett; and two grandsons, Zachary Edward Jett and Thomas Edward Jett-Folk.

Harry was a devoted father and grandfather. He spent considerable time working with youth in the Walkersville/Woodsboro area being involved with the scouts and umpiring baseball. With his grandchildren he enjoyed watching the boys' martial arts, dirt bike riding, cutting grass and collecting coins. He will be missed at grandparent's day. He especially enjoyed those special talks with his two granddaughters. To his son and daughter never was there a better father.

Harry was a tough, strong, inquisitive, and scholarly man with many personal interests ranging from archaeology to genealogy and Scottish music. He was fond of attending musical performances at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Utica. Harry was also a voracious reader and was well known to the staff at the Walkersville branch of the Frederick County Public Libraries as well as the C. Burr Artz Public Library in downtown Frederick. For many years, he was frequently spotted on his long walks in the Old Frederick Road area of Frederick, where he would often stop to chat with his many friends, neighbors, and anyone passing by.

He was a proud and patriotic American. Harry served overseas in the United States Coast Guard during the Korean War from 1949 to 1952. He recently enjoyed the Memorial Day Parade in Woodsboro, which he had attended for many years. He was a sons of the American Revolution, Mason, Shriner and recently received his 60 year pin as a member of VFW Post 573 of Clarksburg, West Virginia.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick, Maryland. Per Harry's request; graveside services will be private. Harry's final resting place will be Mount Olivet Cemetery in Frederick. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Frederick County, PO Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21701.
