Charles Lewis Hardman

Mr. Charles Lewis Hardman, age 89 of Frederick, passed away on Friday, August 19, 2016 at Homewood, Frederick. Born August 1, 1927 in Frederick, he was the youngest of ten children of the late David N. Hardman and Harriet O’Connor Hardman. He was preceded in death by two brothers, David N. Jr. and John W. Hardman; and six sisters: Mabel Hardman, Ethel Hahn, Viola Zimmerman, Grace Filby, Mary Phelps, and Clara Fultz. One child died shortly after birth.

He was educated at St. John’s School for twelve years. He attended Strayer Business College in the District of Columbia. He lived and worked in Frederick, Baltimore, and New York, N.Y. He ran a major hospital store-room in Astoria, N.Y. Retired in 1992, he returned to Baltimore, MD. In 2001 his four sisters and one brother asked him to return to Frederick. Visiting a friend, Elaine Murphy, who lived at Homewood; he decided to place his name on an apartment waiting list. In April 2001 an apartment became available at Homewood so he returned to Frederick. He spent his time attending to his siblings in poor health. The last of his siblings passed away in 2008. He remained at Homewood.

He is also survived by Judy Kepiro, niece, and longtime friends: Rev. Msgrs. Donald S. Essex, Richard Murphy, and Chester Moczydlowski, along with Nancy Boltz and James “Sas” Sasiadek. They became advocates for Charles in many ways and he had great respect and admiration for them.

He enjoyed traveling the world with friends, playing solitaire and working jigsaw puzzles. He loved music, mystery books, and live theater.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Homewood Friday, August 26th at 1:30 P.M. by Rev. Keith Boisvert, his pastor at St. Katherine Drexel and Msgrs. Essex and Murphy. Memorial donations may be made to St. Katherine Drexel Parish, 8428 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD 21702.
