Tempe Jean Gearinger

Tempe Jean Toms Gearinger of Frederick, entered eternal rest on August 22, 2016 at Frederick Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness.

Born April 11, 1935 in Hagerstown, MD, she was one of eight children born to Ira and Thelma Toms.  Tempe was the wife of Robert “Bob” Gearinger, to whom she was married 60 years.  Surviving in addition to her husband are her children, Steven Gearinger of Frederick,  Kellie Gearinger Brown and husband Martin of Smithsburg, her three adored grandchildren Alexander, Connor and Harrison Brown; brothers Donald P Toms and Marvin E Toms both of Hagerstown., and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters Rubie G John, Lois V Murray and Doris P Wolfensberger and brothers Bernard L Toms and Dennis A Toms.

Through the years Tempe was an avid golfer at the VFW and Holly Hills Country Clubs where she won numerous tournaments and was ladies club champion at both clubs. She was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church.  Tempe also enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandsons, shopping for antiques, decorating their homes, traveling and spending winters at their second home in Sebring, FL.

The family will receive friends from 4:00pm to 7:00pm on Thursday, August 25, 2016 at Keeney Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 26, 2016  beginning at 11:00am at the Evangelical Lutheran Church, 31 East Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701.  Pastor Douglas Jones will officiate.  Interment will immediately follow the service in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
