Deanne T. Price, formerly of Rockwell Terrace in Frederick, died peacefully on August 22, 2016 at Edenton Retirement Community. She was the wife of the late Frederick K. Price.
A descendent of Utah Pioneers, Deanne was born April 6, 1919 in Salt Lake City, Utah and was the daughter of Roy Thompson and Evadne Lee Thompson. She graduated from the University of Utah in 1940 and taught elementary school in Salt Lake City. Deanne also served as a volunteer in the Red Cross Motor Corps and in 1943, she was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Naval Reserve (WAVES). Her military service included assignments in the Office of Censorship, Naval Intelligence in Seattle, WA and as Housing Officer at the Navy Ammunitions Depot in Hawthorne, Nevada. In March 1944, Naval Ensign Deanne Thompson married Army 1 st Lieutenant Frederick Price.
Married life took the Prices to seven different cities where Deanne turned fifteen houses into homes and enjoyed serving as an active community volunteer. The Prices retired to Frederick in 1985 and continued to serve their community. They both loved Frederick, where Deanne was active with The Historical Society of Frederick County, The Frederick Women’s Civic Club, The Frederick Memorial Hospital, The Friends of Baker Park, Inner Wheel of Frederick and DayBreak Adult Care Center.
Deanne is survived by her daughter Virginia Price Bracken and husband Charles of Chocowinity, NC, grand-daughters Kelly Bracken Tait and husband Andrew of Doylestown, PA and Kristen Bracken Cheney and husband Kasey of West Grove, PA. She also leaves four great-grandchildren Conor Tait, Morgan Tait, Cole Cheney and Keira Cheney.
The family will receive friends on Friday, September 2nd from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 3rd at 10:00 a.m. at the Mausoleum Chapel of Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Frederick.
In lieu of flowers, Deanne’s memory would be best honored with donations in her memory to either The Friends of Baker Park, Inc. [P.O. Box 4146; Frederick, MD 21705-4146] or to Frederick Memorial Hospital, designated to the James M. Stockman Cancer Institute [FMH-Office of Development; 400 West 7 th Street, Frederick, MD 21701].
