Bernice Waldron Summers

Bernie Summers of Jefferson, MD, died Thursday, September 1, 2016, surrounded by her family. She was predeceased by her husband William E. Summers in 1979. Born in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Harvey C. and Ruth T. Waldron, and raised in Lovettsville, VA.
Bernie devoted her life to caring for her family. She was involved in her family’s business, H. C. Summers, Inc., of Jefferson, MD, in multiple capacities her entire adult life, working right up through the last year of her life.
An involved member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Jefferson and a member of the Women of the ELCA, she contributed her time and many talents to the Sunday School and other church activities, including the many church suppers and the Altar Guild. Bernie also devoted time to the PTA , the Brunswick Band Boosters, and the Jefferson Ruritan.
She enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking, reading, and watching the Orioles. Most of all, Bernie enjoyed spending time with her family.
Surviving are sons Michael (Karen); Thomas (Vanessa); James (Elly); and Mark; grandchildren Amanda Schmidt (Eric); William Summers (fiancée Kara Botker); Joshua Abelow; Tisch Abelow; and goddaughter, Heidi Horine. She is survived by two sisters: Judy Brown and Lillian Edwards, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters Virginia Swoboda and Agnes Waldron, and brother Harvey Waldron.
Visiting hours will be held at Keeney Basford Funeral Home in Frederick, MD, on Wednesday, September 7 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM for friends and family. A funeral service will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Jefferson, MD, on Thursday, September 8 at 11 AM. Interment will follow in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Jefferson.
