Otis Haines

Otis E. “Otie” Haines, 92, of Tuscarora, Maryland, passed away on Sunday, September 4, 2016 at his home. Otie was a well-known dairy and beef farmer in the Tuscarora and Adamstown area.

Born on February 7, 1924, in Lewisdale, Maryland, he was the son of the late Walter and Rosie (Smith) Haines. Otie is survived by three children, Betty Jean Carpenter (Joe) of Rockville, Robert O. Haines (Kay) of Silver Spring and John E. Haines (Vicky) of Ijamsville; two granddaughters, Rachel Barrios (Paul) of New Market, and Stephanie Gilbert (Matt) of Great Falls, VA; three great grandchildren, Madelyn and Luke Gilbert and Gavin Barrios; two sisters, Maizie Watkins of Frederick and Gertrude Solenberger of Winchester, VA; sister in law, Audrey Haines of Damascus; numerous nieces, nephews and many good friends.

In addition to his parents, Otie was preceded in death by four brothers, Walter, William, John and Howard Haines; one son, Otis E. Haines Jr; and former wife, Ina Fitzwater Haines.

The family will receive friends from 9-11am on Thursday, September 8, 2016 at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. The funeral service will be held at 11am. Interment will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery.

The family would like to thank Visiting Angels, Frederick County Hospice, Dr. Hiren Shah and Dr. David Yu for the care and support of their father.
