Mrs. Rosemarie Martin Dews, 89, of Frederick, passed away on Tuesday, September 6, 2016. She was the wife of the late Jule Neville Dews, who died on July 8, 2003. Born in Newark, New Jersey, on January 7, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Charles H. and Rose O'Hay Martin.
Her family moved to Frederick in 1935. She attended local school and was a graduate of Frederick High class of 1944. She was employed for 24 years at the old People's Drug Store on North Market Street. She then worked for 20 years in the office of the Frederick County State's Attorney Office. and retired in 1987.
She was an avid reader, gardener, liked cooking and especially enjoyed the companionship of her Dalmatian dogs for 45 years. She and her husband traveled extensively in earlier years. She also enjoyed spending time at their log cabin on the mid coast of Maine. She was a life long member of St. John's Catholic Church, Frederick.
Surviving are nieces and nephews, Margaret Ann Stidham and Patrick, Cindy Wathen and Thomas and Brian Esworthy and Page, several great and great great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Lucille Martin Esworthy in 1963 and a nephew, Charles W. Esworthy.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m., on Sunday, September 11, 2016, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m., on Monday, September 12, 2016 at Saint John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 118 East Second, Frederick. Rev. Kevin Farmer, will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in the Mount Olivet  Cemetery, Frederick.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in her memory to St. Johns Catholic Church 112 East Second Street, Frederick, MD 21701.
