Mrs. Joanne Elaine Dupuie, Frederick, passed away on Monday, October 17, 2016, at home with her family by her side after a long, courageous battle with cancer and complications.
She was born in Ijamsville, MD on November 7, 1943, to Ethel Plunkard and the late Charles Rice. She was the wife of Marshall B. Dupuie.
She retired from the Department of Energy and its predecessor agencies with 34 years of Federal service as an expert on management analysis, staffing, and personal services budgeting. She supported the Department of Energy’s science and technology programs at the time of retirement in 1995.
She graduated from Frederick High School in the class of 1961 and was active in student government, serving as secretary for the Student Executive Committee. Up until recently, she still had regular luncheon reunions with her friends from Frederick High School.
She was a choir member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Urbana, Maryland. She was church Treasurer, a member of the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Women’s group; and was also very active with friends in the congregation, supporting various church activities, especially those requiring her fine baking, cooking, and crafting skills.
She thoroughly enjoyed Duckpin league bowling with her friends on Tuesday mornings at the Walkersville Bowling Center. She was especially fond of her teammates on the "Happy Hooligans": Nancy Bittle, Addie Null, and John Handiboe.
She was also active in Frederick's artist community. She volunteered her services at the Delaplaine Visual Arts Center on weekends, and during special art events held at the Center.
After her retirement, she enjoyed taking overseas trips with her husband to many different countries, trips to Wisconsin to visit her numerous in-laws, and visits to Colorado to see her son and stepson. She especially took great pleasure from spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandsons in the Frederick area.
In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by: a daughter, Dawn Sparkman and husband, Paul of Frederick, a son, Kevin Perry of Denver, and a stepson, Doug Dupuie and wife, Elke of Denver. She is also leaving behind grandchildren, Heather Riley and husband, Robert, Deona, Paul Jr., and Zachary Sparkman as well as her great-grandsons, Brayden Eyler and Carter Riley. She is also survived by her sisters and brothers: Violet Rice of Frederick, Robert Rice and wife, Iris of Ijamsville, Thomas Rice and wife, Nellie, of Frederick, Ernest Rice of Virginia, Larry Rice and wife Margaret of Virginia, R. Eileen Rice of Frederick. She is also survived by a sister and brother-in-law Denise and Alan Beauchamp of Kenosha, Wisconsin and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her in-laws: Marshall P. and Bernadette Dupuie and Shirley Hernandez.
The family would like to express appreciation for the continued care and compassion shown by Hospice of Frederick and the nurses and staff at the Cancer Care Center of Frederick.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, October 20, 2016, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick, Maryland. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, October 21, 2016, at the Funeral Home. The Rev. Sandi Phillips, pastor of Wesley Chapel will officiate. Interment will follow at the Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 U.S. 15 N in Frederick, Maryland.
