James "Sonny" Ridgley

August 5, 1943 — October 24, 2016

Mr. Jim "Sonny" T. Ridgley, age 73 of Frederick passed away on Monday, October 24, 2016. He was the husband of the late Betty R. (Wetzel) Ridgley. Born on August 5, 1943 he was the son of the late Alvie & Kathleen Ridgley.

Mr. Ridgley was a graduate of Frederick High School. He served in the United States Army. He was a life member at United Steam Fire Engine Company, volunteering and working in fire protection. He retired from The National Institute of Standards and Technology where he served as Fire Chief. He was on the board of directors for the Frederick County Fire and rescue Museum and served as President from 2014- April, 2016. He was also a lifelong member at Grace United Church of Christ, Frederick. In his free time, he was an avid ham radio operator and most of all loved helping others.

Mr. Ridgley is survived by his children, William L. Ridgley and wife Julie of Frederick and Roxanne R. Saloky and husband Mark of Frederick, his brother-in-law Roy Wetzel and wife Jeanette of Sabillasville and numerous cousins.

Friends will be received on Friday, October 28, 2016 from 6 to 8 PM at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick where services will be held in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at 10 AM. Rev. Dr. Rob Apgar-Taylor, pastor of Grace United Church of Christ will officiate. The interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
