Melvin Hedges Zimmerman

August 15, 1916 — October 26, 2016

Melvin Hedges Zimmerman passed away on October 26, 2016 following a short illness. Born on August 15, 1916, Melvin was the son of the late Harry Elias and Nellie Estelle Zimmerman.

Mr. Zimmerman was pre-deceased by wife Margaret Hauver and wife Mary Rhoderick, son Gene and son-in-law Herbert Eiker, brothers Elias and Ralph and sister Nellie Kaetzel.

Surviving are daughter Ann Eiker, sons Brian and wife Jimmie and son Gary and wife Penny; seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and two great-greatgrandchildren.

Mr. Zimmerman was a prominent businessman in the Frederick area for many years. He was owner and operator of Zimmerman's Esso; owned Catonsville Bottling Company; President of Skyline Reality and Vice President of Frederick Business Properties.

Mr. Zimmerman was a member of Saint John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church and was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus where he served as Grand Knight. He was a member of numerous organizations including the Civitan Club.

The family will received friends on Sunday, October 30, 2016 from 4 to 6 PM at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. The rosary will be said at the conclusion of visiting times. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 31, 2016 at 10 AM at Saint John's Church, 118 E. 2nd St., Frederick, MD 21701. Father Charles Wible will officiate. The interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Frederick. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mr. Zimmermans name to St. John's Church, 112 E. 2nd St., Frederick, MD 21701.
