Ruth Carolyn Gardiner

Mrs. Ruth Carolyn Gardiner, 78, of Frederick passed away peacefully on Friday, November 3, 2016.  She was married for 54 years to David Carlson Gardiner who passed away in May of 2011.

Born on September 27, 1938, she was the daughter of the late John Edward King and Claudia Mullinix King of Damascus, MD.

She worked various jobs throughout the early years of her life however she was primarily a homemaker who was known for her cooking and baking.  Her great grandson always requested her to make chicken corn soup and she was delighted to do that for him.  She loved watching Nascar racing, going camping, traveling, and most of all she loved spending time with her family.  She was a member of the Jefferson United Methodist Church and enjoyed being part of the Women’s Group.

She is survived by her children, Judilyn  Arnold and husband JR of Jefferson, MD; Randy Gardiner of Jefferson, MD;  Wayne Gardiner of Mercersburg, PA, Janet Gardiner of Frederick, MD, and Teresa Gardiner of Sacramento, CA; Grandchildren Chasity Myers & husband Brandon of Middletown, MD and Brittany Sentelle & husband David of Jefferson, MD, Great Grandchildren Travis Repass, Bailey and  Douglas Myers of Middletown, MD.

She is also survived by a loving sister Joan Golliday and husband Bill of Frederick, MD and sister-in-law Nancy Daley and husband Gary of Thurmont, MD.  She will be remembered fondly by several nieces and nephews, especially Bill Beard and Sherri King.  Ms. Gardiner was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Jean Beard and Ida Mae Grimes.

Family and friends will be received from 3 to 6 pm, on Monday, November 7, 2016 and from 9:30-10:30 am, on Tuesday, November 8 in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of Keeney and Basford PA Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street in Frederick.  The funeral service will be held at 10:30am, on Tuesday, November  8, 2016 at the funeral home.  Pastor William Carpenter will officiate the service.  Interment will follow at the Bethesda United Methodist Church Cemetery, Browningsville, MD.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jefferson United Methodist Church, 3882 Jefferson Pike, Jefferson, MD  21755.
