Hazel Marguerite “Weetzie” Wright Colliflower, 97, of Frederick, MD, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 7, 2017, in her home of 69 years. She was the wife of the late John A. “Dick” Colliflower, who passed away in 1994, married 54 ½ years.
Born on May 28, 1919, at “Marven Park Estate” in Loudon County, VA, at that time was owned by Governor Westmoreland Davis of Virginia. She was the 11th of 13 children born to the late Clinton H. and Ella Adams Wright.
Marguerite was a graduate of Frederick High School. She was a member of St. Johns the Evangelist Catholic Church, Frederick.
Marguerite was a homemaker as well as devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother. She enjoyed working with her flowers, reading, collecting dolls and watching baseball. She always enjoyed a house full of children and taking care of her family and friends.
She survived by daughter Patricia A. Powers, Myrtle Beach, SC, five sons, John W. (Gale) of Hagerstown, Thomas E. of Frederick, Charles W. (Liz) of Berkeley Springs, WV, Jerry L. (Brenda) of Frederick, Joseph T. (Connie) of Frederick, along with eleven grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Also surviving is her beloved brother, Horace C. Wright of Walkersville, MD
Marguerite was predeceased by her husband and a “Little Angel” their son, Kevin Jeffrey. Grandson Jerry Lee Colliflower, Jr. and great grandson Brendon Colliflower, as well as seven brothers and four sisters.
On June 13, 2009, her children gave her a wonderful 90th Birthday Celebration, attended by more than 100 adoring family and friends. Marguerite was a very special lady loved by all.
Family and friends can gather at Keeney and Basford Funeral P.A., 106 East Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701, on Friday, February 10, 2017 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. A Celebration of Life service will take place at the funeral home on Saturday, February, 11, 2017 at 12:30pm. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Pall Bearers are Thomas E. Colliflower, Jerry L. Colliflower, Joseph T. Colliflower, James G. Shaff II, Ryan J. Colliflower, and Kyle J. Colliflower. Honorary Pall Bearers are Patricia A. Powers and Charles W. Colliflower.
Marguerite requested her great granddaughter Madison R. Shaff to sing “Jesus Loves Me” in memory of her “Little Angel Kevin” and grandson Kyle J. Colliflower to play ‘Amazing Grace” on his saxophone.
