D. Jay Whittington

March 25, 1943 — February 8, 2017

Mr D. Jay "Pops" Whittington, 73, of Frederick, passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of Carol Elizabeth Corbin Whittington. They had been married for 54 years. Born in Jefferson on March 25, 1943, he was a son of the late Douglas and Ann Stockman Whittington. Jay spent most of his life as a builder, craftsman and project manager in the construction field. He took much pride in his work over the years and was a mentor and friend to many new young craftsmen. He shared his words of wisdom to many, "Measure twice and cut once”. He was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church, Frederick Elks Lodge, and had many great enjoyments in life, which included, Nascar, hunting and the river house. He was an avid sports fan of the Redskins, Orioles, Capitals and Maryland Terps.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his children, Bryan Whittington and wife Jane, Mark Whittington and wife Melanie, Wendy Whittington and Christy Whittington, his grandchildren, Robert, Randolph, Noah, Hayden and Maxwell Whittington, and siblings, Pat Young and Fred, Judy Tobery and Tobe, Rick Whittington and Cathy, Lynn Roberts and Donnie, and Cathy Slaughter and Steve. He was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Elaine and brother, David Whittington. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., on Monday, February 13, 2017, at the Calvary United Methodist Church, 133 West Second Street, Frederick, MD 21701. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Dr. Stephen Larsen, pastor of the church, will officiate. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Charles V. and Louise D. Main Fund, for Community Foundation, YMCA and Calvary United Methodist Church,  312 East Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701( www.frederickcountygives.org/Main .
