Agnes Mary Ballantine

November 22, 1924 — March 21, 2017

On March 21, 2017, Agnes Mary Lillis Ballantine went home to have her long-awaited dance with Jesus. Born November 22, 1924 in the Bronx, New York to Mary and Joseph Lillis, she was the youngest of nine children. Her faith was nourished at Our Lady of Solace Parish where she attended grade school, was a member of the sodality, and where at the age of 24, she married David Ballantine. She was a devoted daughter, sister, mother, and friend.
Dave and Agnes were married 66 years and had seven children. Agnes created a tapestry of traditions that included love, family, service to others, music, and food. She loved to travel and visited most of the United States and four continents. An avid entertainer and diplomat, she hosted parties for Russian, French, Japanese, British, Swiss, and Australian colleagues of her husband. A number of friends were adopted into the family; all were welcome at her table.
She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church in Frederick where she was a Eucharistic Minister and served on several committees. She was a charter member of the Board of Directors of St. John's Literary Institute at Prospect Hall. She was known as Nana to 23 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren who flourished in her love and pride in them.
She was preceded in death by her husband David, all her siblings, several nieces and nephews, grandchildren Adam Pfahler and Kevin Ballantine, her great-granddaughter Hannah Grace.
We have no doubt that her dance card is full.
Family and friends can gather at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church, Frederick, MD 21701, on Friday, March 24, 2017 from  1 to 3 and 5 to 7 PM.  A memorial mass will take place at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 118 E 2nd St, Frederick, MD 21701, on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 11am with Monsignor Richard Murphy officiating. Inurnment to follow at St. John Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Frederick County Right to Life, P.O. Box 3272, Frederick, Maryland 21705
