Hugh David Smith

August 24, 1968 — June 30, 2017

Mr. Hugh David Smith, 48, of Frederick, Maryland and The Plains, Virginia, passed away on Friday, June 30, 2017 at his home. Born in Frederick on August 24, 1968, he was the son of Margaret "Peggy" Corrigan Smith Stegman, of Frederick and the late Clater Webb Smith. Hugh was the step son of the late Robert E. "Bob" Stegman, Sr.
Hugh attended St. Johns Grade School and was a graduate of St. Johns Prospect Hall in 1986 and attended Wesley College. For several years Hugh was the assistant golf pro at Holly Hills Country Club and Whiskey Creek Golf Club. He also worked several years with Hertz Equipment Rentals. He enjoyed traveling, hiking and playing tennis.
Surviving in addition to his mother, are his children, Trevor Corrigan Smith and Elsie Clara Smith, both of Frederick, his siblings, Tracy Smith Holzapfel and Brady Smith Bade, both of FL and Clater Winn Smith and wife Robyn, of Frederick, his step siblings, Robert E. Stegman, Jr. and wife Brigid, Susan Stegman McGuirk and husband Derek, Scott Hale Stegman and Juliet Stegman McGuirk and husband Ian, also surviving are nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He will also be sadly missed by his fiancee, Lexie Walker and her children, Caroline, Eddie and Gwynnie. He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, William M. "Billy" Holzapfel.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, July 7, 2017, at St. Joseph on Carrollton Manor Catholic Church, 5843 Manor Woods Road, Frederick, MD 21703. The family will receive friends at the church from 9 a.m., until the mass at 10:30 AM. The Rev. Lawrence Frazier, will be the celebrant. Interment will be private.
