Margaret Effie (Peggi) Redding passed suddenly of natural causes on Wednesday morning July 5th at Meritus Medical Center. She was born on August 22, 1958 on of fifteen children to the late Carroll Joseph and Virginia Bly Redding of Gettysburg, PA.
Peggi is survived by her only child and first love William Carroll (Max) Layton of Huntsville Alabama and her fiancé and soul mate of 23 years Douglas Zaruba of Hagerstown. She is also survived by eleven siblings, four brothers C. David J. Riley and Matthew of Gettysburg, and Stephen of Green Lane PA, and seven sisters Virginia Redding of Carlisle, Sally Redding of Williamsport, MD Kathleen Ross of Columbus, NJ, Cynthia Redding of Cochecton, NY, Deborah Arnold of Gettysburg, Phyliss Brady of Frederick, MD Sharon Hamm of Gettysburg and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 3 brothers Michael, Timothy and Loring.
Peggi surrounded herself not only by her biological traditional family but also an extensive community of friends with whom she shared the ebb and flow of life. She embraced life and those she loved without fear and was a selfless loving icon of the downtown Frederick community.
Peggi graduated from Gettysburg High School in 1977 and earned her degree in Massage Therapy from the Bancroft School of Massage in 1979. She set up her private practice in Massage Therapy here in Frederick City and continued as a Registered Massage Therapist up until her passing. With her commitment and belief in her profession she helped pave the way for this modality to be more recognized and accepted as an integral part of our healing and improved health. She absolutely loved her work and was a vital part of the downtown community for many years.
A private family gathering will be taking place on Tuesday, July 11th, at Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick, Maryland. Please visit her online memorial by going to www.keeneybasford.com
There is also a community gathering being organized by her Frederick community that is open to the public and taking place on Monday July 10th at Cacique Restaurant on North Market Street in downtown Frederick between 5pm and 9pm.
Family and friends will also join for a grand celebration on Peggi’s birthday August 22nd to commemorate her life. Details will be announced at a later date.
