Robert Melvin Routzahn

Mr. Robert M. Routzahn, 79, of McSherrystown, PA and formerly of Frederick, passed away peacefully at his home on July 10, 2017.
Born on September 5, 1937 in Frederick he was one of five children born to the late Harry and Dorothy Dixon Routzahn.
Mr. Routzahn served in the army at the end of the Korean War. He was a dedicated employee of Pepco from where he retired. He was an avid fisherman and crabber. He spent many summers at White’s Ferry Sportsman’s Club enjoying time in the outdoors with friends and family. In his retirement, he also became an avid golfer.
Mr. Routzahn had a lifelong dedication to sports but favored football. He coached a miniature football team and was always near a television when the Dallas Cowboys were playing. He was the #23 for the undefeated Frederick High School team of 1955.
Mr. Routzahn was a loving father and grandfather. He is survived by his daughters Valeri Dawes and Vicki Long and John Long, her husband and friend of Robert; and granddaughters Brittani Cramer and Madeline Dawes. Also surviving are his nieces, Harriet Powell and Laurie Lynch and nephew, Alan "Kim" Routzahn. He is preceded in death by his siblings; Harry E. Routzahn, Elsie Droneburg, Helen Routzahn, and an infant sister; as well as his beloved dog Maggie.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m., on Friday, July 14, 2017, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., on Saturday, July 15, 2017, at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to ASPCA or Frederick County Humane Society.
