Florence Elizabeth Reightler, 91, of Frederick, passed on July 11, 2017, at Frederick Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Frederick on March 16,1926, to the late Raymond and Mildred (nee Summers) Hildebrand. She was the beloved wife of 42 years to the late Chester H.L. Reightler, whom she married in 1945.
Florence showed love for many as one who lived during wartime, with no-nonsense, and with endurance. She cared deeply for her family and was generous always thinking of ways to bless others, sometimes with quarters and sometimes with ceramics that she painted and fired in her own kiln. She maintained family traditions for all her life and gave freely to others.
Florence often shared her story of how she milked 13 cows before school and walking several miles, twice on Sunday, to go to church with her family. She grew up on a farm and learned the value of hard work and family. She started work at an early age at the Frederick Hosiery where she worked for many years until WWII when she then worked in a factory for the war effort. The home she lived in was built by her family on land purchased from her father & mother.
Florence would recite Psalm 23 aloud and she would frequently sing her favorite hymn “I Come to the Garden.” She loved hearing other hymns as we sang them to her.
Florence will be remembered as she was loved by many.
I come to the garden alone
While the dew is still on roses
And the voice I hear falling on my ear
The Son of God discloses
And He walks with me, and He talks with me,
And He tells me I am His own:
And the joy we share as we tarry there,
None other has ever known.
Florence is survived by her daughters; Bonnie Reifsnider and Georgia Rodatus, and her husband Ed; her sister June Grant; and her 6 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her siblings Elmer Lee. Raymond Jr., Jane Bowers, Marceline Rice, and Ruby Fleischman.
At the request of Florence, there will be no public visitation or funeral service. Family and friends can gather at Mount Olivet Cemetery on Monday July 17, 2017, at 11am for a graveside service. The family has requested no flowers be sent.
