James Edward Baker

Mr. James Edward Baker, age 89 of Frederick, passed away on Sunday, August 20, 2017 at his home. He was the husband of the late Dorothy Virginia (Schultz) Baker who passed away on June 24, 1995. Born on January 5, 1928, Mr. Baker was the son of the late John Hubert and Alice Virginia Virts (Fogle) Baker.

Mr. Baker served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army in the 82 Airborne Division where he also earned his glider wings. Following his service to his country, he worked in sales at both Ideal Farms Dairy and Coca-Cola. He was a life member at the Amvets Post #2 in Frederick, Amvets National Sad Sacks where he held several offices at national, state and local levels. Mr. Baker was also a life member at the Glen W. Eyler American Legion Post #282 in Woodsboro and a life member of the VFW Frederick Post #3285. He was a lifelong member of the Edgewood Church of God, Frederick.

Mr. Baker is survived by his children: Rodney Baker and wife Tammy of Herndon, VA, Warren Baker of Frederick, Deborah Cline of Jefferson, and Millie Plunkard and husband Joe of Walkersville, John Wills and wife Phyllis of Frederick, 13 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, a sister, Alice Hunter of Florida, many nieces, nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter Joy Aleatrice Baker, son Thomas Wills, daughter Shirley Freed, brother Lester Baker and sisters Annabelle Whittington and Rosalie Slomcheck, and his good friend, Betty Murray of Jefferson.

Friends will be received on Thursday, August 24, 2017 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick where services will be held in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home on Friday, August 25, 2017 at 10 AM. Rev. Joseph Burdette and Pastor John Culbertson will officiate. The interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mr. Baker's name to the Sons of the Amvets, 702 East South St., Frederick, MD 21701 or to the Edgewood Church of God, 8204 Edgewood Church Rd, Frederick, MD 21702.
