Olive Ruth Engle, 86, of Frederick, died on September 2, 2017 at Citizens Care in Frederick. Olive was born on October 9, 1930 and lived in her beloved Frederick all her life. She was the daughter of the late Robert Samuel Young and Grace Virginia Fogle Young.
Olive graduated from Frederick High School in 1948 and immediately went to work for the C&P Telephone Company in Frederick where she stayed for thirty-eight years serving in many positions starting as telephone operator and ending as business office consultant. She retired from that job to work as an administrative assistant at Frederick Church of the Brethren where she worked for another fifteen years. Her next position was with Frederick Real Estate Teams LLC where she was employed for many years. After that she was employed or volunteered at other positions until the last year of her life. She was a longtime member of the Frederick Presbyterian Church where she was a youth leader, Sunday school teacher, and choir member. She was well-known in the community as a soloist soprano singing at weddings, graduations, and community events. Olive was an active member of the Pioneers and served as chair of the Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon for Muscular Dystrophy telethon for ten years. Among numerous other civic activities, she was a Girl Scout leader and associate guardian of Jobs Daughters Bethel #28. In later years she was a member of the Frederick Church of the Brethren.
Surviving is her sister, Anna Mae Young and partner, Karen Blood, of Baltimore and Lewes, DE, and her brother, Robert Edward Young and wife Vicki Horst Young, of Wilmington, NC. Also surviving are her nephew, William Randall and wife, Dawn, and niece, Juliet Fisher, as well as great nephews, Milo Fisher, Cole Randall, and Sean Randall; and great niece, Miranda Fisher.
The family will receive friends from 9:30-10:30am on Saturday, September 9, 2017, at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St, Frederick. The funeral service will begin at 10:30am at the funeral home. Reverend Lerry Fogle will officiate. Interment will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Ladies Auxiliary of Montevue, 1910 Rosemont Avenue, Frederick, MD 21702.
