Helen Elizabeth Edwards

Helen Elizabeth Edwards, 91, of Frederick, went to be with the Lord, surrounded by her family, on Saturday, October 7, 2017. Born in Jefferson on June 4,1926 to the late Joshua W. and Mary V. Lapole (nee Fawley). She was the wife of 47 years to the late James Fletcher Edwards

Helen was raised on a farm in Jefferson. She left school at a young age to help care for the family farm. She would go on to become a cafeteria worker for the Prince George’s County school system. When she retired she moved back to Frederick.

She loved her family deeply and enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and her dogs. She would go on weekly shopping trips with her daughter. Helen enjoyed gardening, traveling, and reading romance novels. Helen taught herself how to read and enjoyed novels written by Danielle Steele.

Helen was also a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Jefferson.

Helen is survived by her children; Denny Edwards of Rocky Ridge, Sharon MacCracken of Thurmont, and Larry Edwards of Eldersburg, grandchildren; Ryley and Courtney Edwards, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband she is predeceased by her siblings; Charles Lapole, Louise Hossler, and Virginia Ott.

Family and friends can gather at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 3864 Jefferson Pike, Jefferson, MD 21755, on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 from 11am until the start of the funeral service at 12pm. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
