David Frederick Cromartie, 69, of Urbana, died Thursday, November 30, 2017 at home with his family by his side after a long and brave battle with cancer. Born in England, he is the son of Helene Blackburn and the late Alfred Cromartie. He is survived by his loving wife Barbara Cromartie, his sons John Cromartie and wife Courtney, Daniel Cromartie, and granddaughter Grace Cromartie. Also surviving is his mother Helene Blackburn, of England, and his sisters Janie Triantis and husband Nick, Mandy Evans, and 4 nieces and nephews. In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by his brother, Ian Cromartie.
He was a graduate of The George Washington University with a degree in International Economics and had a computer services business in Washington, DC for 30 years. He enjoyed many years as a youth soccer coach in Urbana and in retirement was a substitute teacher for Montgomery County Schools. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family, traveling, and was an avid reader and scholar of history. His love of music, in particular the classical guitar, led to his travels to Spain to select and import guitars after college. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family.
The family will receive friends from 1:30PM to 2:30PM, on Monday, December 4, 2017 at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701. The funeral service will immediately follow at 2:30PM, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
