Raymond Joseph Mangold

January 31, 1940 — November 30, 2017

Mr. Raymond Joseph Mangold, 77, of Frederick, died peacefully at Frederick Memorial Hospital.  He was the husband of Susan Fraser Mangold for 34 years.

Born January 31, 1940, in Spangler, PA, at Miner’s Hospital. He was the son of the late Raymond and Irene Mangold.  He spent his childhood in Carrolltown, PA.  He always thought it was the best place to grow up and Carrolltown held a special place in his heart forever.  He served in the US Navy on the USS York County, LST 1175.  Ray began his career at the Bureau of Labor & Statistics in Washington, D.C. He later worked for DOD at Fort Ritchie and Fort Detrick.  He was an active participant  in the local sports programs.  In particular, he deeply enjoyed coaching Oden Bros., East Frederick Little League, coaching St. John’s Basketball, being a member of the FHS Football Chain Gang, keeping score for the FHS boys basketball, and participating on the coaching staff of the 2009 FHS State Champion Baseball team.

In addition to his wife, Ray is survived by his children; Jim Mangold, Bob Mangold and wife Carrie, John Mangold and wife Robin, Rob Bowlus and wife Melanie and Jamie Shipley and husband Mike, grandchildren; Stephanie, Dylan, Jackson, Emmanuelle, Marshall, Megan, Lauren, Tyson, Macy and Caitlin, great-granddaughter; Riley, sister; Anne Montgomery and husband Jim.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister; Mary Jo Yon.

The family will receive friends from 5pm to 9pm, on Monday, December 4, 2017 at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701.  A  Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church 118 E. 2nd Street, Frederick, MD 21701. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Frederick High School Baseball team, 650 Carroll Parkway, Frederick, MD 21701.
