Hilda Naomi Rice

November 10, 1920 — December 22, 2017

Mrs. Hilda Naomi Rice, 97, of Frederick, passed away on Friday, December 22, 2017, at her home, surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Herman W. Rice, who died in 1997. Born in Frederick on November 10, 1920, she was a daughter of the late Irving and Mamie Burrier Beard.
Mrs. Rice was a homemaker for most of her life, a member of the Araby United Methodist Church and the Auxiliary of the Urbana Volunteer Fire Company for over 30 years. She loved to make quilts and enjoyed fishing, crabbing and spending time at the White's Ferry cabin. She also loved to play cards and dominos with family and friends.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice for the excellent care, love and support given to their mother.
Surviving are her children, Sharon L. Rice, of Frederick and Gary C. Rice and wife Jeannie, of Ijamsville and her daughter-in-law, Sandra Kaye Rice, grandchildren, Veronica A. Poole and husband John, of Frederick, Gary C. Rice, Jr., of Ijamsville and Dawn R. Delahanty and husband Michael, of Chesapeake Beach, great grandchildren, Mason B. Day and Kyla E. Poole and many nieces and nephews . She will be remembered by Barbara Nash, of California, who was like a daughter and special friend and neighbor, Evelyn King. She was preceded in death by a son, Irving W. Rice, two sisters, Annabelle Huffer and Catherine Covell, two brothers, Paul and Howard Beard.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, December 26, 2017, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services. The Rev. John Harpold, will officiate. Interment will be in the Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Hospice of Frederick County, P. O. Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21702.
