Mr. Walter J. Bowers, Jr. of Frederick (Feagaville) Maryland died Sunday January 28, 2018, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Katherine Fraley Bowers. Married on October 2, 1969, Honolulu, Hawaii. They were together more than 47 years. Born on April 11, 1945 in Clarksburg, West Virginia to the late Walter J. Bowers and Virginia Rose Borneman Bowers.
Mr. Bowers attended St. Mary’s High School, Annapolis, Maryland, Anne Arundel Community College and the University of Maryland, College Park.
Mr. Bowers served in the US Army, 25th Infantry Division in Vietnam and was awarded the Bronze Star.
His career was with the Federal Government doing research as a scientist at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Gaithersburg, Maryland. This was his passion as the challenges were never ending. He received the Bronze Medal Award for his dedication from the Department of Commerce.
Mr. Bowers was an avid golfer, fisherman and pool player. He was a member of American Legion 168 Thurmont, Maryland and AMVETS Middletown, Maryland.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his son, John Andrew (Andy) Bowers of Frederick. Brothers
Paul J. and wife Patricia Bowers of Crisfield, Maryland and Robert L. Bowers of Berkeley Springs, West Virginia, Many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He especially enjoyed vacations in Myrtle Beach with his good friends, Patrick and Linda Weed. He enjoyed the 4th of July vacations in Ocean City, Maryland with his brother Paul and wife Patricia.
A Celebration of Life service will be held mid-April 2018 at the Braddock Inn, Braddock Heights, Maryland.
