Mary Alice Shankle

Mrs. Mary Alice Shankle, 78, of Myersville died Sunday, February 11, 2018 at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick. She was the wife of William (Bill) D. Shankle, her husband of 57 ½ years. Born November 23, 1939 on a farm in Wolfsville, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Effie Stottlemyer.

She was a life time and active member of the Salem United Methodist Church, Wolfsville. She loved to serve the Lord and was devoted to her family. She was a dearly loved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She graduated from Middletown High School and worked at Grangers Mutual Insurance Company. She retired from the Clerk of the Circuit Court after 36 years of service and rose to the position of Chief Deputy which she thoroughly enjoyed.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters. Theresa Haupt and husband Robin, and Susan Koons and husband Philip. Granchildren, Trista Wright and husband Josh, Brett Haupt and wife Kendra, Mark and Joshua Koons. Great-Grandchildren, Henry Wright, Christopher and Nora Haupt. In addition, she is survived by six brothers, Frank, Elvin, Donald, George, Elwood, and Vernon Stottlemyer.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 16, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the Salem United Methodist Church, 12477 Wolfsville Road, Myersville, MD 21773 with Pastor Robert Snyder officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Mary Alice Shankle to the Salem UM Church at the above address.
