Edward Kenneth Rice, Sr.

Mr. Edward Kenneth "Kenny" Rice, Sr., 86, of Frederick, passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2018, at his home. He was the husband of Judith E. Winpigler Rice,his wife of 56 years. Born in Frederick on January 15, 1932, he was a son of the late Bryan and Margaret Fogle Rice.
Kenny was a graduate of Frederick High School class of 1950. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He worked for 30 years in the family business, the Gulf Service Station at East and 4th streets, in Frederick, He then worked for five years at Renn Kirby. He retired from the Frederick County Public Schools, where he worked in maintenance.
He was a life member of the Francis Scott Key American Legion Post # 11, the Civitan Club and the Korean War Chapter # 142.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his children, Lea Ann Mellstead and husband Tim, of Frederick, Elizabeth Kay Wood and husband Tim, of Ft. Pierce, FL and Edward K. Rice, Jr., of Frederick, his brother, Bryan "Bill" Rice, of Walkersville, five grandchildren, Brandie Sutherlin, Adrianne Adams, Sydney and Megan Wood, and Aiden Rice, two great granddaughters, Destiny and Mariah, his aunt Mary Jane Courn, and his sister-in-laws, Cynthia Ropp, Pamela Martin, Ramona Ridgely, Coral Keller and brother-in-laws, Charles Winpigler and Peggy, Hubert Winpigler and Sis, David Winpigler and Carole, Adrian Winpigler and Betty, Bion Winpigler and Billie and Shawn Winpigler and Becky, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by five brother-in-laws and two sister-in-laws.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m., on Sunday, February 25, 2018, at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., on Monday, February 26, 2018, at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
