Ms. Laura Anfisa Lusa Staley, age 23 of Monrovia, passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at her home. Born on December 21, 1994 in Yalta, Crimea, Ukraine she was the daughter of Patrick J. Staley and Norma Brinkley-Staley.
Laura - often known as Lusa - was a graduate of Urbana High School in the class of 2013. She loved animals, especially her pony Moonie and her dog Kayia. She was a member of the Frederick Pony Club. She also loved the beach most notably Chincoteague Island. She also loved playing soccer playing on two club teams: LUYAA and LAYAA.
In addition to her parents, Laura is survived by her siblings: D. Gordon Staub of Frederick, Hannah Staley Conner and husband John of Charles Town, WV, J. Christopher Staub and wife Paula Gefäll Borrás Staub of Vigo, Spain, Ryan P. Staley of Monrovia, and P. Ross Brinkley-Staley of Monrovia, her nephews Tyler McGarvey of Hagerstown, and Nigel Anton Staub of Vigo, Spain, and her niece Sofia Norma Staub of Vigo, Spain. She is also survived by her aunts and uncles: Elizabeth Brinkley Sponseller and Michael J. Sponseller, Secretary David R. Brinkley and his fiance Bethamy Beam, Susan Brinkley-Gowl and Wade Gowl, Sarah Staley Schairer and Ed Schairer, Vincent Staley and Sandra Staley, Jeanne Staley Moran and Ed Moran, Mary Staley Waters and Frank Waters, Pete Staley and Caryle Staley, Janice Staley Dalyai and Greg Dalyai, and numerous cousins. Laura was predeceased by her grandparents Dr. and Mrs. George Ross Brinkley and Mr. and Mrs. Paul E. Staley and an Uncle Michael H. Staley.
On February 14 the General Assembly of Maryland on the authority of SP No. 26 adjourned the Senate at 11:57 AM until 10:00 AM February 15, 2018. . . in memory of (Laura Staley) Secretary Brinkley's (niece- for his), sister, her husband, and Laura Staley's five siblings.
Friends will be received on Saturday, March 24, 2018 from 9 AM until 1 PM at the Grace Episcopal Church, 5740 Green Valley Rd, New Market, MD 21774 where a funeral service will be held at 1 PM. The interment of her cremains will be private.
