Robert Lee Main, Sr., age 87 of Frederick, passed away on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at the Ballenger Creek Center, Frederick. He is survived by his wife Dorcas J. Main. Born on September 20, 1930 in Mt. Airy, he was the son of the late Clyde D. Sr., and Virgie N. (Runkles) Main.
Mr. Main was a lifelong member of the Bush Creek Church of the Brethren. He worked for over 30 years for the Department of Energy in Germantown retiring in 1996. Following his retirement he served his church as the caretaker for 25 years. Mr. Main was a proud veteran of the United States Army serving his country during the Korean War. During his time of service he was with the Co D 56th Amp TK & Trac Bn earning a National Defense Service Metal, United Nations Service Metal, Expert Marksman Badge, and Korean Service Ribbon with a bronze star. After he was honorably discharged he became a member of the Francis Scott Key Post # 11, Frederick. Bob always enjoyed watching his favorite sports being the Washington Redskins and the Baltimore Orioles. Most of all, he also enjoyed every opportunity to spend time with family and friends.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Main is survived by his children, Robert L. Main, Jr., Larry A. Main and wife Brenda, and Terri H. Main; his grandchildren Tammy & Erick, Lee & Chrissy Main; and great-grandchildren Julia, Lea & Maddox Madrid and Brett and Alina Bender. He is also survived by his brother Samuel Main and sister Darlene Frye and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Main is preceded in death by his brothers Clyde D. Main Jr. and Ellis Main.
Friends will be received on Thursday, March 8, 2018 from 10-11 AM at the Bush Creek Church of the Brethren, 4821 Green Valley Rd, Monrovia, MD 21770 where funeral services will begin at 11 AM. Rev. Leo and Melissa Barnes and Wilkie Nunn will officiate. The interment will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, adjacent to the church.
