Shirley Lunora Nininger

Mrs. Shirley L. Nininger, age 93 of Jefferson, passed away on Thursday, March 15, 2018 at the Kline Hospice House in Mt. Airy.  She was the wife of the late Shem C. "Red" Nininger who passed away in 2007.  Born on July 3, 1924 in Craig, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Walter & Naomi Wright.

Mrs. Nininger, otherwise known to all as Nanny, loved gardening, canning, flowers and cooking.  In her free time she loved NASCAR, particularly Chase Elliott.  She was a true family matriarch, loving all the time she spent with her family.  She never said a mean word about anyone!

Mrs. Nininger was the mother of Phyliss Betson & husband Frosty of Frederick, Nancy Fowler & husband Paul of Knoxville, and Glenn Nininger, Sr. & wife Mary of Jefferson; the grandmother of Michael Betson & wife Kanda, Richard Betson & wife Sharon, Shelby Marsden & husband Kyle, Janice Stull & husband Jeff, Scott Fowler, Glenn Nininger, Jr. & wife Staci, Clint Nininger, Sherry Nininger & fiancé Jeremy Rice, and Lauren Mills & husband Anthony; the great-grandmother of Ryan Betson, Cody Betson, Cheyenne Betson, Stephen Marsden & wife Tina, Quinn Marsden, Chance Marsden, Aiden Marsden, Brandon Roberts, Randy Stull, Dylan Fowler, Grayson Fowler, Corey Nininger, Carter Nininger, Cameron Rejonis, Talan Rice, Layla Rice, Kara Mills, Emmalyn Mills, and Evan Mills, and the great-great-grandmother of Alyssa Heil, Payton Marsden, Raelynn Roberts, and Rikki Roberts.  In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Nininger is also preceded in death by her two grandsons Jason Nininger and Ronnie Moss, II and all of her siblings.

Friends will be received on Sunday, March 18, 2018 from 5 to 7 PM at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick where services will be held in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home on Monday, March 19, 2018 at 1 PM.  Pastor Clayton Clark will officiate.  The interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.  Contributions may be made in Mrs. Nininger's name to the Kline Hospice House, 7000 Kimmel Road, Mt. Airy, MD 21771.
