Elizabeth "Betty" Sulcer

Mrs. Elizabeth Lee “Betty” Sulcer, 93, of Frederick, died on Saturday, March 31, 2018, at the Kline Hospice House. She was the wife of the late Merhl William “Buck” Sulcer, who died August 11, 2000.

Born May 8, 1924 in Brunswick, she was a daughter of the late Frank Klees Dorsey and Mary Virginia Moore Dorsey.

Betty was a 1942 graduate of Frederick High School and in early years work as a secretary in the Law Office of Stanley Bennett, until she started work in the Personnel Office of Fort Detrick. In 1957, she and her late husband opened the Suburban Restaurant in Frederick, which they operated for 22 years. She later worked many years for the Frederick County Board of Elections, until her last retirement.

She was an active volunteer with the Monocacy Foundation and the Salvation Army, for many years. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Women’s Democrat League.

Betty enjoy quilting and sewing especially crocheting, needlepoint and embroidery.

She is survived by a son, Merhl Wm “Buck” Sulcer, Jr, and wife, Beth Selckmann Sulcer, and a daughter, Virginia Klees “Ginnie” Sulcer, all of Frederick; three grandchildren, Merhl W. “Buck” Sulcer, III, Matthew W. Sulcer and Nicholas W. Sulcer; one sister, Nancy Dorsey Grams, and husband, Reese, of Middletown; and several nieces.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Louise Merriman.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9pm on Wednesday, April 4 at the Keeney and Basford P.A. Funeral Home, 106 E Church Street, Frederick, where funeral services will be held at 1pm on Thursday, April 5. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery.

The family has been especially touched by the care she received from Hospice and would invite donations to Hospice of Frederick County, PO Box 1799, Frederick, or to her other favorite charities including Salvation Army; Monocacy Foundation or The National Shrine of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton.
