Jessie Marie Fisher, a resident of the Record Street Home, Frederick, passed onto her Heavenly Home peacefully on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at the Frederick Memorial Hospital.
Born in Richardsmere, MD, on March 12, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Jesse Brown Spangler and Bonnie Rose Thompson Spangler Dunavent of Frederick.
Jessie was the wife of the late Grayson (Bill) Fisher who died in 1979. She was preceded in death by their two sons, Baby Boy Fisher and Steven Douglas Fisher; her grandson, Eric Wayne Fisher; her brother Donald Spangler and his wife Erna, and her stepfather Roy Dunavent. She was also preceded in death by her very close friend, Bill Bolyard in 2016.
She was a graduate of Frederick High School in 1946. For 18 years she was employed by the American Optical Corp until their closure. She later retired from the U.S. Army Medical Research & Development Command at Ft. Detrick in 1993. Her last employment was a part-time position at the Citizen Care & Rehabilitation Center before retiring in 2009.
Jessie is a member of the Frederick Church of the Brethren and a member of the BYDANHO Sunday School Class. During her active years, she was a member of American Legion Post 11 Auxiliary, AARP Chapter 409, NARFE Chapter 636, the Women of the Moose Chapter 347, the Salvation Army Woman’s Auxiliary, Citizens Care & Rehab Auxiliary, and the Rainbow Belles.
She loved her Lord and enjoyed her church, traveling, dancing, dinner theaters, playing cards, horse racing, playing the slots, ball games, taking rides, picnics, going to Pen Mar to listen to big band music and she had a passion for functions with her family and friends.
Surviving are three children, Ronald (Mike) Fisher, Martinsburg, Pam Moran and her husband Ernie, formally of Frederick and now full time RVers, Sandy Johns and her husband Larry, Frederick; three grandchildren, Amy Fisher, Bethesda, Michael Lewis and Matthew Lewis both of Frederick; a step daughter Gerry Shriner and husband Adrian, Frederick; three step grandchildren, Bathshema Graham, Julia Rogers and Kenneth Plumley all of Gainesville, FL; five sisters, Edith Wiles, Hagerstown, Jane Skellchock, Cumming, GA, Peggy Bender, Linda Virts, Lynn Anderson, all of Frederick; a brother-in-law and wife Frederick & Amelia Fisher, Frederick; sister-in-law, Carolyn Fisher, Hagerstown, and a number of nieces and nephews. Jessie treasured her many friendships and especially enjoyed her long time friendship with Dot DeGrange, Rose Marie Myers, Pauline Summers and Betty Dorsey.
The family will receive family and friends from 3-7 on Monday, April 9 at Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E Church St, Frederick. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 10 at 11:00 at the Frederick Church of the Brethren, 201 Fairview Avenue, Frederick with the family receiving friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
