Marie Jones Hemp

Mrs. Marie Jones Hemp, age 92 of Jefferson passed away on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at her home. She was the wife of the late William "Bill" Hemp who passed away on October 15, 2004. Born on March 31, 1926 in Frederick she was the daughter of the late G. Arthur & Mary (Rothenhoefer) Jones.Mrs. Hemp was a graduate of Frederick High School in the class of 1943. Before raising her family she worked for C&P Telephone company. She was a longtime member of the Jefferson United Church of Christ. She served the church and the Jefferson Ruritan Club by helping with many dinners. She was a former member of the Jefferson Ladies Auxiliary to the Jefferson Vol. Fire Company, more recently a member of the Jefferson Fire Company. Most of all she enjoyed her family and vacations to Ocean City.Mrs. Hemp is the mother of William "Billy" Hemp and wife Sandra of Jefferson, Susan Corun and husband Donald of Jefferson, and Gary Hemp and wife Robin of Jefferson; the grandmother of Roxy Grossnickle, Daniel Hemp, Brooke Hemp, Ashley Crum, Tara Hemp, Amber James, and Kristin Hemp; and the great-grandmother of Alayna, Ethan, and Weston Grossnickle and Justin and Taylor Crum. Mrs. Hemp is also survived by her sister Nancy J. Royal of Frederick , her sister-in-law Jennie V. Hemp of Jefferson and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hemp is preceded in death by her sisters Louise J. Strine, Pauline J. Bowlus, Marianna J. LeGore, and Helen J. Miller. Friends will be received on Thursday, April 12, 2018 from 2-4 and from 6-8 PM at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick and on Friday, April 13, 2018 from 10-11 AM at the Jefferson United Church of Christ, 3837 Jefferson Pike, Jefferson, MD 21755 where services will begin at 11 AM. Pastor Darrel Justh will officiate. The interment will follow in the Jefferson Reformed Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mrs. Hemp's name to the Jefferson United Church of Christ, P.O. Box 579, Jefferson, MD 21755 or to the Jefferson Fire Company, P.O. Box 578, Jefferson, MD 21755. Lastly, Mrs. Hemp's family would like to extend a special thanks to her caregivers Paige, Tracey, Bonnie, Sherri and Tammy.
