Vassilica Effeian Kalikian

Vassilica Effeian Kalikian, passed away on April 19th at the Citizens Nursing Home at the age of 88. Mrs. Kalikian was born in Bucharest, Romania. In 1948, Romania fell under communist rule, and she along with her family emigrated to Armenia, USSR. The family eventually settled in Yervan, the capital of Armenia, where she met her husband, Aram Kalikian, also an immigrant from Bucharest. Later, the Kalikians emigrated with their sons to the US and made their home in New York City. They passed their retirement living near their children in the USA.Mrs. Kalikian is survived by her son Hagop (Jack), his wife Armine, and their sons, Aram and Narek, by her younger son, Varoujan (Roger), his wife Aida, and children Arpi and Arman, and by her nieces Noel Charteure and Silvia Tcherkechian in Paris. Nieces Haigouhi Berekjian from Salem , MA, and Araxi Van from Fairfax, VA, Zarmine Benzer from New Jersey.Mrs. Kalikian and her husband braved many hazards to come and settle in the USA. Their love of their adopted country, their generosity and devotion to the Armenian community makes them greatly missed by all their survivors.Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at 11 AM at St. Mary's Armenian Apostolic Church, 4125 Fessenden St., Washington DC 20016. The interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Frederick, MD.
