Hypatia Jane Selby
December 31, 1930 — April 29, 2018
Mrs. Hypatia Jane "Pacia" Smith Selby, 87, of Frederick, passed away on Sunday, April 29, 2018, at Monteuve Assisted Living. She was the wife of Howard B. Selby. They were married for 66 years. Born in Mt. Airy, on December 31, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Henry Nusbaum and Sarah Glisan Smith.
Pacia was a graduate of the Mt. Airy High School class of 1948 and also was a graduate of the Frederick Hospital School of Nursing class of 1951. She had worked at the hospital from 1951 until 1970, after the that she went into private nursing and served three prominent families in Frederick and provided private nursing in local nursing homes.
She was a member of the New Market United Methodist Church, nursing alumni association and the 1902 club of FMH.
Pacia loved spending time with her family, crocheting, reading, traveling and bus trips, watching 60 minutes and Sunday Morning. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed the Orioles, Washington football and the Maryland Terps.
Surviving in addition to her husband are her sons, Michael H. Selby and wife Cindy, of Keymar, Philip N. Selby and wife Betsy, of Frederick, grandson, Bryce M. and wife Emily Selby, sister, Mary Molesworth and husband Bob, of Mt. Airy, brother-in-laws, Donald VanSant, of Mt Airy and Gene Selby, of Frederick, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by siblings, Charles Smith, Ann VanSant and Jack G. Smith and his wife Peg, nephew, Doug Smith and sister-in-law, Gloria Selby.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 12 Noon, on Thursday, May 3, 2018, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick, where services will begin at Noon. The Pastor Scott Clawson, will officiate. Interment will be in the Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
