Margaret Ellen Allen

Mrs. Margaret Ellen (Umberger) Allen, age 88, of Jefferson passed away Saturday, May 12, 2018. She was the wife of the late William J. Allen, Jr., who passed away June 4, 2014. They were married for 53 years. Born August 30, 1929 in Frederick, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Edna (Cook) Umberger.
Margaret attended Frederick High School and worked for many years on her family’s dairy farm. She married William on October 29, 1960, moved to Jefferson, and worked with him on their dairy farm. Together, they attended many national Holstein and milk producer conventions through the years.
She served as secretary for the Jefferson Homemakers and was active in Valley School PTA, 4-H and FFA activities to support her sons as they grew up. Margaret loved spending time with her family, cooking, working in her garden, and with her flowers.
Surviving are three sons, Michael Allen and wife Johanna, Bill Allen and wife Sandy, and Jim Allen and wife Lisa, all of Jefferson; five grandchildren, Katelyn Allen, Todd Allen, Kristy Allen, Ryan Allen, and Jill Allen; and siblings, George Umberger of Frederick, Ruth Adkins of Walkersville, and Helen Knott of Frederick. She is also survived by brothers- and sisters-in-law, John Allen, David and Marie Allen, Ann Murphy, Frank and Mary Margaret Sims, Mary Allen Farmer, and many nieces and nephews.
Margaret is preceded in death by her sister, Edna Hooper, sister-in-law, Kitty Umberger, and brothers-in-law, Charles Allen, Harry Murphy, and Guy Adkins. The family would like to extend a special thanks to her primary caregiver over the past two years, Pam Delauter.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at Holy Family Catholic Community, 7321 Burkittsville Rd., Middletown, Maryland 21769. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 am on Friday, May 18 at Holy Family. Rev. Msgr. Rob Jaskot will officiate. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Todd Allen, Ryan Allen, Patrick Allen, Philip Allen, Jimmy Umberger, and Danny Umberger. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Catholic Community, Middletown, Maryland.
