John Hedges Lakin

Mr. John Hedges "Jack" Lakin, 86, of Jefferson, passed away on Sunday, June 10, 2018. He was the husband of the late Jane Norris Lakin, who died March 27, 1998. Born in Jefferson on October 23, 1931, he was a son of the late Henry D. Sr., and Gladys Brown Lakin.
Jack was an active farmer all his life and was still farming until the last three months due to illness. He was active in the Jefferson  community and a member of the United Church of Christ, Ruritian Club, Grange, Jefferson Volunteer Fire Company, Farmers Cooperative and Catoctin Soil Conservation.
Surviving are his children, James F. Lakin and Susan, of Jefferson and Judy L. Derrow, of Rohrersvile, sister, Patsy Keller and Gene, of Jefferson, grandchildren, Jordan Derrow and Anthony, Janna Derrow, Katey Doody and Rob and Laura Wenner, great grandson, Jackson, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Henry D. Lakin, Jr., and his wife Alma.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m., on Thursday, June 14, 2018, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on Friday, June 15, 2018 at the Jefferson United Church of Christ, 3837 Jefferson Pike, Jefferson, MD. The Rev, Darrel Justh will officiate. Interment will be in the Reformed Cemetery, Jefferson.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Jefferson UCC, P. O. Box 579, Jefferson, MD 21755, Jefferson Volunteer Fire Company, P. O. Box 578 or the Jefferson Ruritian Club, P. O. Box 415.
