Christopher Philip Carr

September 24, 1969 — June 16, 2018

Mr. Christopher Philip Carr, a talented local artist, age 48, died suddenly on Saturday, June 16, 2018. A lifelong Frederick resident, he was the loving and devoted son of Dolores Carr of Frederick, MD, and Philip Carr of Little River, SC.  He is survived by his wife (separated), Shawn Lees-Carr, his sister, Michelle Mullins and husband, Joe, and nieces Elaina and Leah of Manassas, VA, and his sister, Tara McShane and husband, Lee of Sabillasville, MD. Also surviving are his 101-year-old paternal grandfather, Charlie Carr, his aunt Anne Regan, and his uncle Jim Carr.

Chris was a 1987 graduate of Governor Thomas High School and attended Frederick Community College. He worked for The Frederick News Post , Washington Post , and other printing agencies as a graphic designer and print manager. A gifted watercolor artist, he was known for his beautiful landscapes and rural images and participated in many art festivals and shows. He had a gift for seeing the beauty in old, dilapidated things and used his art to bring them back to life. He was passionate about music and loved IPAs, "garage" nights, NHRA, motorcycles and sports. He was a frustrated Redskin's fan, and at one point, wished he could have been a professional golfer. When he wasn’t painting, he enjoyed seeing his favorite bands, spending time with friends, traveling around looking for new "old" landscapes to paint and tinkering with his vehicles and home. He was very handy and could fix and make anything.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, June 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Keeney & Basford Funeral Home at 106 E. Church Street, Frederick, MD. A celebration of his life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Christopher's name to the Frederick County Landmarks Foundation, a private nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving historic sites, structures and natural landmarks.
