Larry Sheffer Koogle, age 72, passed away on June 23, 2018 at his home. He was the husband of Karen V. (Shafer) Koogle with whom he celebrated 50 years of marriage this June.
Larry was born August 1, 1945 in Middletown, MD, the son of the late Bruce S. Koogle Sr and Doris C. Fink. He graduated from Middletown High School in 1963. Larry was a member of Army Reserves Signal Corp #558. At age 55, after more than 33 years with Alban Tractor in Myersville, MD, Larry retired as Shop Forman to pursue his passion for farming. The remainder of his career was spent farming land and raising cattle in Middletown.
In addition to his loving wife Karen, Larry is survived by his daughter Pamela V. Longmore and husband Tom of Charles Town WV, son Gareth B. Koogle and wife Lauren of New Market, MD; five grandchildren, Charlotte D. Koogle, Grayson C. Longmore, Danielle R. Koogle, Jared S. Longmore, Griffin D. Koogle; sister-in-law Catherine V. Koogle of Frederick; brother David C. Koogle and wife Joyce of Middletown; sister JoAnn (Koogle) Myers, and husband Gerry of New Market; brother in law, John Shafer and his wife Bette of Frederick; sister in law, Su Sine and her husband Doug of Walkersville, MD; sister in law, Robyn Shafer of Middletown; and brother in law, Rick Shafer of Middletown. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Larry is preceded in death by brother Bruce (Buzz) S. Koogle, Jr, nephew Ricky B. Koogle, father and mother in law, F. Davis and Helen Shafer and brothers in law, Dave and Clyde (Skip) Shafer.
Larry was a member of many clubs, which included life memberships to the Big Oak Lodge, Frederick Fish and Game Protective Assoc. and Amvets Post 9. He was a recent member of the South Mountain Rod and Gun Club.
The family will receive friends Saturday, June 30, from 3 pm to 5 pm at Keeney & Basford, Frederick, MD. A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, July 1, at Keeney & Basford, Frederick, MD. The Rev. Mark Wakefield will be officiating. Interment will follow at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Middletown. Following interment, the family will receive friends at LK Farm, 8500 Pete Wiles Road.
