Ella Elizabeth Derr

October 30, 1928 — July 14, 2018

Ella Elizabeth Derr born October 30, 1928, daughter of the late Harry Samuel Derr and Annie Mary Beard Derr, died Saturday July 14th following multiple health issues.

Elizabeth was born and raised in Feagaville, Md. and attended Frederick High School. She graduated from Hood College with a B.S. degree. Her R.N. degree was earned at Johns Hopkins School of Nursing. Later she finished her Masters in Nursing Education at the University of Maryland. She became an instructor, then Director of Nurses at Frederick Memorial Hospital where she retired after many years of service.

Elizabeth was a lifelong member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Feagaville where she also sang in the choir. Over the years, she held many positions of leadership in the church and the community at large. Her professional interests included many activities in Zonta International, an organization for the empowerment of women. Her passions in life were her church, her community, the nursing profession and her family.

She was preceded in death by niece Ann Schaffer Elder and long time friend David Buhrman. Elizabeth is survived by sister Rebekah Derr Schaffer, niece Susan E. Wade and husband and Gary D. Schaffer DVM and wife. She is also survived by Many great and great great nieces and nephews living in New Jersey, Maryland and North Carolina.

A memorial service will be held at St Luke's Church in Feagaville on Thursday July 19, at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Elizabeth's name to St. Luke's Church.
