Elizabeth (Betty) R. DiIenno of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Adamstown, Maryland; and recently McLean, Virginia died peacefully on August 20, 2018.
Betty was born to George and Filomena DiIenno in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on May 13, 1922. She enjoyed a long and successful career at Philadelphia Electric Company. She traveled extensively in the United States and abroad with her friends, Nancy and Dolores, delighting her nieces and nephews with stories of her adventures. After her retirement, Betty continued to tackle new challenges and worked as a kindergarten aide, served food weekly in a Soup Kitchen for the homeless, and volunteered for many activities in her local parish. Betty was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease in 2014; and, despite her fears that she could not cope or make new friends, her final years at the Sylvestery in McLean, Virginia were filled with new friends, joy, and peace.
Betty was a devoted daughter, loving sister, and doting aunt. Preceded in death by her parents and brothers, she is survived by her sister-in-law, Martha DiIenno, and many nieces and nephews, as well as grandnieces and grandnephews. A lifelong Catholic, Betty was unwavering in her faith in a merciful and loving God, always putting God and family first in her life. Betty was a shining example of love and devotion, and her family is comforted by many happy memories of her service and love to others.
