Agnes Protos Karanikas

Mrs. Agnes Protos Karanikas, 85, of Frederick, passed away on Tuesday, September 4, 2018, at the Ballenger Creek Center. She was the loving wife of John G. Karanikas. They have been married for 59 years. Born in Washington DC on September 7, 1932, she was a daughter of the late James Matthew and Sophia Manolas Protos.
Agnes was a homemaker for most of her life and loved spending time with her entire family. She loved to cook and enjoyed antiquing.
Surviving in addition to her husband are her three children; Jim Karanikas and wife Kathleen, of Brookeville, George Karanikas and wife Denise, of Jefferson and Mary Ivins and husband John, of Litha, FL, one sister, Mary S. Hantzes, of Rockville, 10 grandchildren Kevin and wife Catilin, Brian, Nick, Sophia, Allie, Jessica, Katherine, John Robert, Katie and Beth, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by siblings, Toula Bockting, Matthew Protos and Nick Protos.
Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m., on Saturday, September 29, 2018, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Hospice of Frederick County, P. O. Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21702.
