Mildred Louise Cody, “Millie,” 70, of Frederick, MD, passed after a lengthy battle with leukemia on Wednesday, September 19, 2018. Born on January 3, 1948 in Rush, NY to the late Benjamin Aaron and Dorothy Mae (nee Poinan) Moore. She was the beloved wife, of 46 years, to Peter Jon Cody.
Millie graduated in Art Education from Buffalo State College and would later get her master’s degree in teaching from Western Maryland College, now McDaniel College. She was an art teacher for many years, teaching at schools in New York, Illinois, and throughout Frederick County. She spent much of her teaching career in New Market, MD. Millie was also an accomplished artist.
Millie was active in the All Saints Episcopal Church community in Frederick. She was also a member of the Daughters of the King and the Altar Guild Society. She was a member of the Frederick Woman’s Civic Club. Some of her hobbies included drawing and painting, gardening, playing the flute, and heartening a comfortable home.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children; Peter Matthew Cody, Claire Elisabeth Daywalt (Adam), and Andrew Benjamin Cody (Amanda), her sisters; Joyce Fuoco of Rush, NY and Gail Gordon of Berkley, MI; her grandchildren: Benjamin Cody, Finn Cody, Isaac Daywalt; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her sister Dorothy “Bernie” (Frary) Foffe.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701, from 4 to 7 p.m. A funeral service will take place on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at All Saints Episcopal Church, 106 West Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701 at 10 a.m. Another funeral service will be held Friday, September 28 at St. John Episcopal Church in Honeoye Falls, NY at 12 p.m. Interment will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery in Rush, NY.
