William "Bill" E. Davis
April 20, 1931 — September 18, 2018
In Bill’s youth he worked on his family farm and for many other farmers in the area. He would go on to work for the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1952, during the Korean War, as a member of the 101st Airborne “Screaming Eagles” and served proudly as a paratrooper. He was honorably discharged in 1954, having attained the rank of Corporal. He and Ruth settled in Doubs, MD and he would soon start his own excavating business, Bill Davis Excavating, which he ran for 36 years until retiring in 1993.
Some of Bill’s hobbies included hunting, fishing, and farming. He and Ruth loved to travel, visiting all 50 states and many countries around the world.
He spent the last few years of his life under the loving care of his youngest son Matthew and wife Janis at their home on his original homestead in Della.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and the staff of Kline Hospice House for all the care they gave Bill.
In addition to his loving wife, Ruth, he is survived by his children; Anita Higy (Charles), Diana S. Fath (Michael), Douglas E. Davis (Patricia), and Matthew L. Davis (Janis), and grandchildren; Andrew Higy, Rebecca Powers, Kristin Higy, Joshua Fath, Joseph Fath, Michael Fath, Zachary Davis, Nicholas Davis, and Samuel Davis. He is also survived by 8 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter Patricia Davis and his sister Anna Rose Smith.
Family and friends may gather at Emmanuel Trinity Lutheran Church, 4004 Ballenger Creek Pike, Frederick, MD 21703, for a memorial service on Sunday September 30, 2018 at 1 p.m. Inurnment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill’s name to Emmanuel Trinity Lutheran Church, 4004 Ballenger Creek Pike, Frederick, MD 21703, the Carroll Manor Fire Company, 2795 Adams St, Adamstown, MD 21710, or Hospice of Frederick County, 516 Trail Ave., Frederick, MD 21701.
